Simply by using your Treecard, you’ll help restore biodiversity hotspots around the world. One of them, pictured here, is located in Kapolet, Kenya.
Treecard's reforestation partner Ecosia plants trees in Kenya with the Green Belt Movement, which was founded by Wangari Maathai. Professor Maathai won the Nobel Peace Prize for her political activism and reforestation work. Ecosia plants trees according to her method — by working with local communities to plant native trees around critical water sources. This prevents soil erosion, and increases both the quantity and the quality of the water.
Jane Waskie is one of the tree planters in Kapolet. After an attack on her village, she no longer owned any land. Today, she plants and looks after new saplings, a few steps from where the photo was taken, and grows crops between the trees. She told us that the reforestation program helps prevent the kind of conflict she experienced, because resources are no longer as scarce.
